toys for the car

Anyone have any recommendations on toys for the car? Looking for something that can keep a toddler's interest for longer than 5 minutes and, if possible, somehow attach to the carseat to keep the toy from being flung across the car when it has lost its entertainability.

i carry those small magnadoodle pad things in my bag everywhere we go. it helps in the restaurant when we're waiting for our food, in the doctor's offices, etc. you can find them at the checkout line in target usually. of course these don't strap to the car seats and may not be the best for what you're hoping for - but we've used those in the car every now and then too. mainly, griffin & ainsley just have snacks or their drink and almost always "juicy dog" or "baby" - which by the way has kept their attention if we let the dog or baby "drive" the car. good luck!

I was going to suggest the magnadoodle as well. I don't know how your car is set up, but I kept a plastic tub of toys next to the carseat. It had a handle on the tub that allowed me to put the seatbelt through it so it didn't slide to far away from the carseat, and I kept it full of books, the magnadoodle, and other anything else that had her interest at present. I always had to restock at the beginning of a car trip, but at least it kept the toys within reach and contained... for a minute or two.

Clueless here, but certainly am interested to see everyone's responses. My day is soon coming.

I am not sure when you posted this, but I have been on vacation so I was reading your old posts. My 3 yr old likes anything that isn't really a toy...flashlights, pipecleaners (they can be anything and were great on the airplane!), paper towel tube to look for scurvy pirates on the road or in the fields...We do have a 10 year old too to be the toy caddy so he picks up the stuff his brother drops (read throws) when he is done.
