toys for the car

Anyone have any recommendations on toys for the car? Looking for something that can keep a toddler's interest for longer than 5 minutes and, if possible, somehow attach to the carseat to keep the toy from being flung across the car when it has lost its entertainability.

stuff

Ok, so after our trip to the science museum I decided to make a toy for Matthew. We trekked over to the hardware store...which is a little slice of heaven for a baby boy...and picked up the necessary items. It's pretty much just a board with hinges and such on it...but good for hands-on fun!

In a previous post I mentioned the stack o' books we keep at our kitchen table. Here is a photo of our stash which includes 4 real books, a book that M and I made using photos from a Buckner brochure, and the info sheet for the child we sponsor through Compassion Int. We read from/talk about these at both breakfast and lunch. If you have any questions about the books, let me know!
Scott UPdate:
Me: You want a piece of licorice? It's stale.
Scott: Yeah.
Me: Yes, even though it's stale?
Scott: That just means it's aged to perfection.

After viewing a preview of Akeelah and the Bee, Scott declared, "Babes, that makes me not want to use spell checker ever again...EVER!

Would you like a little toxin with your toy?

With all the crazy recalls and questions concerning the safety of toys made in China (love their babies, not their toxic toys), I visited some web sites to research alternative sources for buying toys. As expected, prices are quite a bit higher, but these companies seem to be committed to selling safe items for children.

Untitled post

This morning I needed to look something up on the computer. Matthew has plenty of toys in the office, but he refused to play with them. No matter how many times I tried to redirect him, he just kept going for all the electronic stuff, especially the computer speakers. I was going to take some pictures of this (thinking I could use it to convince my mom that Matthew would rather have a new stereo for Christmas instead of toys), so as Matthew sat chewing on the speaker, I set his toys behind him. Then when I tried to snap some photos of him, he immediately turned to play with his toys! Then....no sooner as I sat back down to post this, he left his toys and crawled back to play with the speakers.
Look at my sweaty baby in fleece pants and a sweatshirt! It is cold in the desert today!
