Meet the Author

This morning Matthew wrote and illustrated his first book. He had a good time drawing with the markers, but the part he loved most was using the stapler! There will be a book signing at Borders on Saturday....

Last night we had dinner with Scott's family. I was so busy cutting up M's food that I forgot to take photos! And then I spaced it again as he and Layne played in the fountain. Fun stuff! Right before we left uptown it began to rain. One of my favorite things about living in the southwest is that you can be in a total downpour and the sun is still shining! Makes for lots of rainbows!

Yes, I took these pics while driving 70 down the freeway with my baby in the backseat. You can go ahead and put my name on that Parent of the Year nomination form now. I'm pretty sure this has clinched it for me. It's spelled T...I...S........

edited2add: if you are looking for a recommendation on adoption books, check out jenna's comment to this post! this girl is one fierce reader!

Tell Matthew to tell HIS PEOPLE to call MY PEOPLE when he schedules the book signing.
We'd really like to get some shots for the interview in next months TOWN & COUNTRY.
For the title I thinking--" Matthew:The Man Behind the Pulitzer".
Call my assistant- We'll do lunch.

I will definitely be recommending this book.... :)

Speaking of which, I was just reading through the recipes post comments on my blog (for whatever reason, they aren't getting sent to my e-mail, so I'm missing comments), and I JUST saw you asked about best adoption book I've read. Sorry for the delay getting back to you! What category of book are you looking for? Do you want info books or more memoir (sp?)? I have mostly read accounts of families who have adopted. Those are my favorite.

I LOVED "A Love Like No Other" which is really a collection of essays (edited by Jill Smolowe). Because of that, it covered so much varied territory.... I also enjoyed "An Empty Lap" by Jill Smolowe as well. She's very different than me, but I enjoyed reading how her husband was at first very reluctant about adoption and how that was resolved. (She uses a bit of strong language in that book though if I remember correctly.)

The Lost Daughters of China by Karen Evans, of course...

I also really, really enjoyed "China Ghosts" by Jeff Gamage.

The one I really didn't like was "Forever Lily: An Unexpected Mother's Journey to Adoption in China". It was loaded with her "dreams" and "meditations".... WAY to "new age" for my taste.

I'm trying to think what else I've read......I am actually going shopping soon for a couple more to take to Hawaii with me. I'd love to know if you've read any that you love. (You'll have to e-mail me though as the comment thing is messed up: scjchardy@yahoo.com) I'll keep you posted if I read anything I really enjoy.

Gosh.....maybe someday I'll learn not to be so WORDY! Sorry so long! :)

What a cute little author!

Just sent in my nomination for you as parent of the year!

I may check out some of these adoption books as well. I have only read The Lost Daughters and China Ghosts from Jenna's list. Thanks to her for sharing.

Wow the rainbow pics are awesome!!!

Were you talking on your cell phone while you took them, too?? Haha.

Matthew is quite the little artiste!!! You know what's funny? Grant refuses to draw with a pink crayon/marker! I SWEAR I did not teach him that!!!
